"Charlie Longsdon holds a strong hand in the 3¼ mile Mandarin Chase with Rey Nacarado and the highly-progressive Pete The Feat attempting a five-timer..."
Charlie Longsdon holds a strong hand in the 3¼ mile Mandarin Chase (14:10), with Rey Nacarado bidding to repeat his triumph in the race 12 months ago and the highly-progressive Pete The Feat attempting a five-timer after victories at Uttoxeter, Plumpton, Folkestone and Lingfield this autumn. While the former's chance is respected, the latter still appeared to have plenty in hand when taking the latter of those four races last month and a further 8 lb weight rise may not be enough to prevent further success here.
The Paul Nicholls yard is currently in fine fettle and Salubrious (15:15) is fancied to add another winner to the champion trainer's tally for the season. Both his efforts this term have been highly promising, following a fourth-place finish in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow with a fine second behind At Fishers Cross (winner again since) over 2 miles 3 furlongs here earlier this month, and even though the handicapper has raised him 4 lb for that effort, he still looks well treated and can take this prize on his way to better things.
The concluding race sees the return of My Tent Or Yours (15:50), a leading bumper performer from last term who could hardly have created a better impression when comfortably accounting for subsequent Grade 2-winner (who steps up to Grade 1 company in the Challow Hurdle earlier in the card) at Ascot last month. He looks a most exciting prospect and while the Henderson and King yards in particular introduce interesting hurdling recruits here, it'll be a surprise if the selection fails to find the winner's circle again.
