Timeform pick out three bets from the card at Newmarket on Saturday, which includes the Qipco 2000 Guineas...
"He was well backed to make a winning start to his career that day and didn't disappoint his backers with an authoritative success..."
Arthenus - 14:00 Newmarket
Arthenus brought up the hat-trick with a narrow victory over an extended mile at York in October and the way he dug deep to assert in the closing stages suggests he will relish the stiff uphill climb to the line here. He scored off an official rating of 92 that day and, while a 8 lb hike in the weights makes life tougher on his return from over six months off the track, he remains capable of better after just seven career starts. A member of the Timeform Fifty to Follow on the Flat for 2016, Arthenus could yet follow in the footsteps of trainer James Fanshawe's Ribbons and Deacon Blues, who graduated from handicaps to make their mark in pattern company. He can take the first step with a defeat of the equally promising Intimation here.
Yattwee - 16:20 Newmarket
Yattwee made an impressive debut when beating a subsequent winner with ease at Southwell in December and, while this race represents an altogether more difficult task, he remains open to more improvement after just one appearance on a racecourse. He was well backed to make a winning start to his career that day and didn't disappoint his backers with an authoritative success over seven furlongs, recording an usually high Timeform rating for a maiden at that venue in the process. The drop back in trip shouldn't be a problem on breeding (dam a Group 3 winner over five furlongs as a two-year-old) and, although his ability to act on turf has to be taken on trust, Yattwee is fancied to maintain his unbeaten record with a win here.
Cymric - 16:55 Newmarket
Cymric has already proven himself to be a smart performer in just six starts as a two-year-old, giving the sidelined Ultra most to do in a Group 1 at Longchamp and arguably unlucky not to have come out on top on that first try at the top level. Drawn wide on that occasion, he delivered a sustained challenge down the outside of the field and, gaining all the way to the line, he only narrowly failed to reel in the winner. He can be forgiven a disappointing effort at the Breeders' Cup on his only subsequent outing and, with the form of that Longchamp effort leaving his rivals with 8 lb to find on Timeform ratings, Cymric is expected to see off the attentions of Sky Kingdom for a successful start to his three-year-old campaign.
