Timeform pick out three bets from Musselburgh and Windsor on Monday...
"However, he was still only beaten a length in third and that looks good form in the context of this race..."
Roc de Prince - Musselburgh 14:10
Roc de Prince looked on good terms with himself before his stamina gave way over a longer trip at Pontefract last month and the handicapper looks to have taken a chance by dropping him a further 2 lb in the weights. Indeed, he's now on a mark 4 lb lower than when winning this race 12 months ago and - yet to reproduce that level of form in five subsequent starts on the Flat - there was at least some encouragement to be taken from his second outing for the Keith Dalgleish yard last time. He has the assistance of a leading amateur in the saddle here and, with 4 lb to spare over his rivals on Timeform ratings, Roc de Prince is fancied to regain the winning thread with a defeat of the unexposed Christmas Hamper.
Grapevine - Windsor 18:20
Grapevine returned from nearly six months off the track with an improved effort on his handicap debut at Doncaster and he remains capable of better with that run under his belt. He travelled smoothly into contention as the field entered the final two furlongs that day, but his lack of a recent run appeared to find him out in the closing stages and he was ultimately passed by a pair of more conservatively ridden rivals. However, he was still only beaten a length in third and that looks good form in the context of this race, with the second improving to land a handicap at Chester on Wednesday. Similar progression should be good enough to see Grapevine off the mark here and he can see of the attentions of the promising Bedrock.
Lightning Spear - Windsor 19:20
Lightning Spear ended 2015 on a low note with below par efforts at both Leopardstown and Ascot, but he had previously shown himself to be a smart performer and remains capable of better after just eight starts in three seasons of racing. A comfortable winner of a Salisbury handicap in June, he took another step forward when chasing Arod home in the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot and acquitted himself with credit when fourth in a Deauville Group 1 next time. That form leaves his rivals with some 3 lb on Timeform ratings and, with his disappointing to the campaign best forgotten, Lightning Spear is expected to prove too good on his return. Battle of Marathon is thriving at present and can give the selection most to do.
