Monday's UK Smartplay's come courtesy of action from Ayr and Windsor...
"Gowanharry's best form is at this minimum trip, while she won well on soft ground at Newcastle in May with subsequent Hamilton scorer Ingenti back in third."
The five-furlong handicap at Ayr (14:30) is the first race under consideration today. Findog did well to finish second from a bad draw at Musselburgh last time and looks to be going in the right direction, but he's untried on ground anything like this testing and Gowanharry duly gets the nod ahead of him. Gowanharry's best form is at this minimum trip, while she won well on soft ground at Newcastle in May with subsequent Hamilton scorer Ingenti back in third. He can be forgiven his below-par run at Beverley last time as the exertions of attempting a hat-trick of wins took their toll. Michael Dodd's hardy filly can get us off to a winning start.
We remain north of the border for our second of today's SmartPlays where Balducci would appear to be the pick on form in handicap contest over a mile (16:30). Whilst this is a drop in class on his first start for the in-form David O'Meara, he is as-yet unproven on a soft surface, coming ninth on the only occasion he has encountered it. With the ground deteriorating the pick is the sole three-year-old in the field, Mark Johnson's Steer By The Stars. He has been a little out of sorts of late, but if returning to the level of his win on heavy ground at Catterick he looks the most attractive prospect at current prices.
The final bet of the day comes from the evening card at Windsor, where the unexposed Poyle Thomas looks to be the pick of the runners in the closing 11-furlong contest at 20:30. He showed a good attitude in his maiden win at Kempton in June, produced to lead a furlong out and eventually winning well. His fifth at Newmarket last time on his handicap bow is best overlooked as he was left with too much to do in what was a more competitive contest than this. He could prove to be well ahead of his current BHA rating of 75 and is worth siding with to register his first handicap success.
