Timeform pick out three bets from Newmarket on Friday, the second day of the 2016 Cambridgeshire meeting...
Journey - Newmarket 14:30
Journey was a comfortable winner of her most recent outing in the Pinnacle Stakes at Haydock, showing the benefit of her seasonal debut at York and providing further proof that she is one of the best middle-distance fillies around on her day. She had established herself in that regard when producing a smart performance to win this race 12 months ago and - 4 lb clear of her nearest rival on Timeform ratings - Journey is expected to defy a four month absence from the track and can take this en route to another crack at the Fillies and Mares Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot, a race in which she was second 12 months ago. Beautiful Morning remains unexposed and can give the selection most to do.
Nathra - Newmarket 15:40
Nathra was disappointing when down the field on her most recent outing in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, but has been given plenty of time to recover from those exertions and can be forgiven one blip in a series of otherwise consistent efforts. Indeed, she had acquitted herself with great credit in the opening weeks of the season, winning the Nell Gwyn Stakes at this venue and producing a career-best when second in the French 1000 Guineas at Deauville. She would appear to hold obvious claims if arriving in the same form here and Nathra is fancied to have the beating of some far more exposed rivals, with the similarly lightly-raced Forge likely to prove the main danger to the selection.
Dal Harraild - Newmarket 17:25
Dal Harraild showed himself to be a smart performer when successful on his penultimate outing at Goodwood and again ran well when third from a 4 lb higher mark at Ascot last time. He actually delivered more than he promised on that occasion, travelling strongly into contention as the field entered the final two furlongs and simply unable to quicken once asked to win his race. Nevertheless, he still showed form good enough to suggest he is well worth his place in a race of this nature and - 1 lb clear of Furia Cruzada on Timeform ratings - Dal Harraild is expected to take the step up in grade in his stride and can continue trainer William Haggas' fine form of late (five winners from last 10 runners).
