Timeform pick out bets from Haydock and Ascot on Friday.
Cloudy Dream - 13:25 Haydock
Given his physique it was no surprise to see Cloudy Dream make a good start to life over fences when landing a three-runner event at Carlisle last time, and based on his unlucky second in the Scottish Champion Hurdle on his final start over timber last season from a BHA mark of 133, a 4 lb higher opening mark in this sphere looks very fair. King's Odyssey is two from three over fences and sets the standard based on his win at Cheltenham in January when last seen and looks a big threat.
Thomas Campbell - 14:10 Ascot
Thomas Campbell won what is traditionally a strong maiden hurdle at Cheltenham's Showcase meeting on his hurdling debut in October, beating his stablemate Khezerabad (who has won since) going away, and he is sure to find plenty of improvement with that under his belt. Nicky Henderson won this race in 2011 and 2012, and looks to have a good chance of landing it again on Friday. The selection's main danger could be Criq Rock, a useful bumper winner who wasn't seen to best effect in a messy race on hurdling debut at Chepstow last month.
Aqua Dude - 14:35 Haydock
An interesting novice can go to Aqua Dude, who built on his third behind Yanworth and Charbel at Ascot when readily winning a Southwell novice on his final start of last season in March. An expensive purchase after winning a point in Ireland, he has the looks and pedigree to improve plenty for the switch to fences and this step up in trip. Vintage Clouds should also make a better chaser than hurdler and is expected to be more at home in these softer conditions compared to the good ground he faced at Carlisle on his chasing debut. Politologue may have his quirks (jinked and unseated rider approaching last on third start) but has some of the best hurdling form in the race and is also respected.
