Timeform highlight a couple of bets from day four at Royal Ascot, while there's also a selection in today's big race at Redcar.
Noble Mission has long lived in the shadow of brother Frankel, but this could be the day he announces himself as a high-level performer in his own right.
The family story of this week so far probably belongs to Aidan and Joseph O'Brien teaming up with So You Think in the Prince of Wales's Stakes on Wednesday, though that could change come the King Edward VII Stakes at 15:05 today. Noble Mission has long lived in the shadow of brother Frankel, but this could be the day he announces himself as a high-level performer in his own right. Beaten only twice so far in his career (runner-up to subsequent Derby fourth Thought Worthy last time) and progressive all the while, Noble Mission can take another step up with twelve furlongs sure to suit. Derby third Astrology stands in his way, but given that one's quirks Noble Mission rates as a more prudent bet.
Leaving Royal Ascot for a spell, Redcar's 16:00 is a competitive little handicap over a mile. There are plenty of unexposed and well-treated sorts among the field of seven, but course specialist Kiwi Bay is the one who seems likeliest. Michael Dods's gelding has recorded his last three wins over today's course and distance and, if you can forgive a substandard effort last time, has been giving the impression he's building up to something. Conditions are significantly more in his favour this time and he's bound to go close.
We're returning to Ascot for our final selection, in the Queen's Vase at 17:00. None of these three-year-olds have tackled the two-mile trip before, which creates uncertainty, but we'd be mightily surprised if Minimise Risk didn't have the requisite stamina. It's not as though Andrew Balding's colt is lacking for form, either - he's joint-top rated on the Timeform figures after just four career starts, the latest of those coming when he finished seventh faced with a stiff task in the Derby. Minimise Risk is certainly bred to stay well, by Galileo and related to plenty of useful sorts who've stayed beyond twelve furlongs, which suggests he'll improve again back at a more realistic level.
