"He remains one to be interested in with that under his belt, however, and from just 1 lb higher in the weights he looks to hold a good chance of getting off the mark in handicaps..."

The Last Lion - 14:50 Sandown

The Last Lion is likely to be a short price for this race, but he sets the standard by some way on his career-best half-length second in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot two weeks ago, and is some 12 lb clear on Timeform ratings of the rest of the field on the back of that. The Last Lion should be very hard to beat if running to that sort of level dropped in grade, and can provide Mark Johnston with his second win in this race in two seasons. Pretty Vacant was sixth at Royal Ascot in the Windsor Castle and could be the one for the forecast.

Saint Thomas - 20:15 Beverley

Nearly four lengths separated Lean On Pete and Saint Thomas when the pair filled the 1-2 over this C&D 10 days ago, but there is reason to think that the latter can turn things around this time with a 6 lb pull in the weights with the former, who was seen to maximum effect that day under an aggressive front-running ride. Lean On Pete could find competition for the lead this time around from the likes of Sigurd, who has made the running in the past, and Saint Thomas - who has slipped to a handy mark, 9 lb below the one he last won from - could be the one to be with. Cool Music got back to form at Newcastle last time and could also figure.

Weld Al Emarat - 20:30 Haydock

Weld Al Emarat was well backed on his debut for Simon Crisford last time at Newbury but was unable to reel in a well-ridden winner in the end and could only manage second. He remains one to be interested in with that under his belt, however, and from just 1 lb higher in the weights he looks to hold a good chance of getting off the mark in handicaps, with the possibility of more to come given he is still lightly raced for his age. Zealous, the only three-year-old in the field, won last time at Doncaster and looks the obvious danger now taking on his elders for the first time.
