Today's SmartPlays take in day one of the Betfair Ascot Weekend as well as meetings at Haydock and Newmarket.
Monday's SmartPlay winner Dubai Dynamo, who goes for a quick-fire double under a penalty, looks to have come up against one in the form of this improving handicap debutant.
Pistol (16:50 Haydock) hasn't looked easy to handle so far, after disappointing on his handicap debut at Newmarket last time, but a first-time visor should encourage a better run from the gelding. Sir Michael Stoute's only Haydock runner is the least experienced in his field, and though main dangers Rocktherunway and Flashman may run to their form, we can expect our selection to improve up in trip on soft ground. Pistol's yard is in fine form with a strong record at the track, which only encourages further that he can get off the mark.
The pick of day one of Betfair's Ascot weekend is Fluctuate (17:05) for the familiar Gosden-Buick combination. Monday's SmartPlay winner Dubai Dynamo, who goes for a quick-fire double under a penalty, looks to have come up against one in the form of this improving handicap debutant. The three-year-old shaped well in a good Wood Ditton renewal and confirmed that form when breaking his maiden at Wolverhampton last time. Holding an entry in the Betfair Celebration Mile, our selection looks to be a Group horse running in handicap company.
The final SmartPlay comes from Newmarket, where Rivas Rhapsody should go one better in the 19:50 after a hat-trick of seconds this season. Richard Hughes partnered the in-form filly last time, when she was simply disadvantaged by the run of the race, and the pair should repeat the effort now on soft ground. A proven winner, the twice beaten-favourite is now good value to get her head over the line first.
