Two bets from our man in the Timeform Radio hotseat today. David Cleary tells us what he likes.
A tricky day's punting in store, particularly for those with losses to recover from Royal Ascot, with some trappy-looking cards complicated by quite a few non-runners, due to the change in the ground since declaration at both Pontefract and Hereford. This is less of a problem at Hexham, where the staying handicap chase at 16.00 looks to offer the day's best bet, in the shape of Copper's Gold. He comes here in decent form, his last two runs looking solid in this grade, which is slightly below the level he's been running at. He stays well and won on his only previous start on heavy ground.
At Hereford, all ten stand their ground at the time of writing in the handicap hurdle at 16.50. There are doubts about plenty of these and Xenephon may well be able to go one better from last time over course and distance. Then he was no match for Jolly Roger, but there was no disgrace in that, the winner on his way to the fifth of six wins in a row this season.
Back Copper's Gold @ 7.06/1 in the 16.00 at Hexham
Back Xenephon @ 4.216/5 in the 16.50 at Hereford
