Timeform Radio Racing Tips: Van Percy looks value
Wednesday is a very competitive day of racing and there's a bit of quality to go with the quantity on show, says Timeform Radio's Stephen Molyneux...
Van Persie is already proving his worth to Man Utd and the equine Van Percy can show his worth in the 15:25 at Carlisle. There has been plenty of money around for Tribal Path this morning and he is feared having made his debut in a competitive maiden at York but he hasn't achieved anywhere near as much as Van Percy who was second to Dundonnell on debut before going down by a short head at Epsom last time. He was totally unsuited by the track that day yet still nearly won and he makes plenty of appeal at around [3.2].
There are few, if any, better trainers around than Brian Ellison and he can get on the board with Bocciani in the 17:35 at the same track. Bocciani has developed into a useful hurdler/chaser since joining Ellison yet has only raced twice on Flat whilst in his care, finishing second at Ffos Las in May 2011 before winning comfortably at this venue later the same year. He's gone up 9lb for that success but he still has plenty of scope based on what he's subsequently done over timber and he makes plenty of appeal at [4.5].
The best race of the day comes at Doncaster when some familiar sprinters will do battle in the listed Scarbrough Stakes at 15:05. Sole Power is obviously the class act but is priced up accordingly and I prefer the claims of Nocturnal Affair who was only half a length behind Sole Power at Meydan earlier in the year and will come into this race fresher than his rival. He had a good break following his exploits in Dubai and made a pleasing return when second in a similar event at Tipperary. Forget his run in the Nunthorpe, he boiled over on the long walk across from the stables, as he had done in the Coral Sprint Trophy a year ago, and a return to his best will see him make plenty of appeal at [8.2] for the win and [2.9] for the place.
