Timeform's James Cooper is your radio pundit on Monday, and he has two tips for you...
A bumper winner on debut at Carlisle 12 months ago, Hurricane Hollow ran to a very useful figure when seventh of 19 in the Grade 2 contest at Aintree in April.
Wolfofwallstreet and Alaskan Wing take up a fair chunk of the market in Redcar's five-furlong nursery at 13:40, but it might not be as one sided as that. The former is fairly treated on his nursery bow fitted with a tongue strap, pulling clear with an established sort in a Windsor maiden last week, but his run style and pedigree (dam a half-sister to smart stayer Tartouche) suggests he may need the emphasis more on stamina. Of course he may well get away with it here, but he hasn't been missed in the market, whilst Alaskan Wing made all at the speed-favouring Catterick last time, and though the runner-up has gone in since, that doesn't appeal as the strongest of nurseries. With that in mind, I am prepared to side with Brindle on handicap debut. It's never wise to take take the proximity of lesser horses like the Richard-Fahey trained daughter of Iffraajj to much superior ones at face value in maidens, but she wasn't far behind the very useful Mattmu on debut at Beverley, with Jolievitesse in behind her that day. She hasn't progressed in two outings since, but her pedigree is all speed, so back to the minimum trip from a mark of 63 with bang in-form Jack Garritty full value for his claim, Brindle is well worth siding with.
A race just ten minutes later up at Ayr (13:50) features the best bet of the day in the form of Hurricane Hollow. A bumper winner on debut at Carlisle 12 months ago, this son of Beat Hollow ran to a very useful figure when seventh of 19 in the Grade 2 contest at Aintree in April. Given his Flat pedigree, it was most encouraging how he took to obstacles when destroying an admittedly modest bunch at Hexham earlier this month, a performance warranting a "P" given our handicapper couldn't go overboard with the bare rating. Fellow bumper winner Looking Well rates a good jumping prospect too, but that contest he won was ordinary and it is a little surprising he is kept to the minimum trip for this hurdling debut. Tradewinks isn't an easy one to assess, but has been let go by Nicky Henderson, so Hurricane Hollow can defy a penalty en route to better things.
Timeform Radio Tips:
Back Brindle @ 8.415/2 in the 13:40 at Redcar
Back Hurricane Hollow @ 2.829/5 in the 13:50 Ayr
