David Cleary brings you two bets from today's meeting at Market Rasen...
Around A Pound is a more speculative suggestion, but he goes well here and may well have needed the run badly last time...
Just Market Rasen has survived the deluge from four meetings scheduled in Britain and Ireland this afternoon, and there aren't that many runners over seven races on what is likely to be pretty testing ground.
The best betting race looks like the beginners' chase at 13.40 in which Changing Times looks too short at morning prices. He has finished second on both starts over fences, running with credit each time but making a serious mistake four out in each race. He is stepping up in trip and while he should stay, it could well be a slog and a few of his rivals are proven under such searching conditions. Laying Changing Times is an option to consider, with none of his opponents totally ruled out, while backing likely main rival Monturgeon is another. Chasing debutant Monturgeon finished second on all five starts over hurdles but he ran into some very promising sorts and is very much the type to make a better chaser. He'll handle the conditions and comes from a stable enjoying an excellent season.
The handicap hurdle at 14.40 is an interesting puzzle, with the three in the race that ran well last time out all returning from an absence. A trio that ran below par last time look the ones to focus on. Ulis de Vassy is clearly potentially a player, unexposed but needing to bounce back after a poor effort on his return, while Red Hot Poker is down in class and favourably weighted but tongue tied first time, which is a concern. Around A Pound is a more speculative suggestion, but he goes well here and may well have needed the run badly last time. At early prices, Around The Pound and Red Hot Poker are worth an interest.
Recommended Bets:
Back Monturgeon @ 4.3100/30 in the 13.40 at Market Rasen
Back Red Hot Poker and Around A Pound @ 6.05/1and 17.016/1 respectively in the 14.40 at Market Rasen
