Timeform pick out three bets from Navan on Wednesday.
Finn McCool - 16:05 Navan
Finn McCool was available at 33/1 with bookmakers for next year's Derby as an unraced two-year-old and clearly carries a lofty reputation. He has yet to really confirm that on the track, however, being badly held back by experience on debut at Leopardstown in August, and then being well beaten when fast-tracked into the Group 1 National Stakes on just his second start. There were more promising signs last time at the Curragh, however, and he produced his best effort yet when finishing second (pair nearly 10 lengths clear of the third) to Vociferous Marina, and if building on that again here, he should be able to put his experience to good use and get off the mark.
Malinka - 16:35 Navan
This is an open race but Dermot Weld's Malinka has plenty going for her as she drops in grade following a good second in 0-90 company at Roscommon last time. That represented a career-best effort for Malinka on just her third handicap start, and she could well be capable of better, so gets the vote. Jacobs Well finished second in a big field at the Curragh last week, and will be a big danger to the selection if handling the quick turnaround.
Tipstaff - 17:05 Navan
Aidan O'Brien has won the last two runnings of this maiden, and it is slightly surprising to see him unrepresented this year. However, Jim Bolger also has a good record in the race, winning it in 2013 and saddling the second in 2011, and his Tipstaff looks the one to be with this time around. Wearing the Godolphin blue, Tipstaff not only makes plenty of appeal on pedigree but also showed plenty of ability as he split an experienced pair who already set a high standard on debut at Gowran Park last time. If building on that here he should be hard to beat.
