Timeform pick out three bets from the opening day of the 2017 Punchestown Festival.
Melon - Punchestown 16:20
Melon ran a huge race for one so inexperienced when second on his most recent outing in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, travelling smoothly into contention from two-out and simply finding the reopposing Labaik too strong on the day. He looks the type to make further progress with that experience under his belt and, with Labaik's temperament still under suspicion, Melon is taken to reverse the placings and can provide trainer Willie Mullins with an important winner.
Veinard - Punchestown 16:55
Veinard shaped with promise when second at Fairyhouse seven days ago, still having plenty to do as the field entered the straight and ultimately doing extremely well to get within three lengths of the winner. That form gives him the edge over Dakota Moirette on Timeform ratings and, with the likely strong gallop here expected to suit, Veinard is fancied to see off the attentions of the thriving Tudor City and can record the victory his consistency of late deserves.
Disko - Punchestown 18:40
Disko was a determined winner of his penultimate outing in the Flogas Novices' Chase at Leopardstown and ran at least as well in defeat when third in the JLT Novices' Chase at Cheltenham last time. That form leaves him 2 lb clear of Acapella Bourgeois on Timeform ratings here and, with the return to three miles expected to see him in an even better light, Disko would appear to hold obvious claims and is fancied to provide owners Gigginstown with a fourth victory in this race.
