Timeform pick out three bets on Clonmel Oil Chase day.

Blackthorn Prince - 13:35 Clonmel

Blackthorn Prince has been rapidly progressive over hurdles this season for Enda Bolger, and completed a hat-trick in determined fashion over this C&D last time, pulling clear of the field with the second. He has a 7 lb rise in the weights to contend with now, but may not have finished progressing yet and is worth chancing to land the four-timer. Gusty Rock shaped well when fourth at Gowran last time and is an obvious threat with Ruby Walsh taking over in the saddle.

Outlander - 14:10 Clonmel

An interesting race, not least for that fact that the ex Mullins-trained Outlander (now trained by Gordon Elliott) narrowly shades favouritism over ex stablemate Alelchi Inois. The latter is highly respected here after seemingly not seeing out three miles in the Gran Premio Merano Chase at Merano last time, but Outlander - a Grade 1 winning novice last season - should have come on plenty for his first outing of the season at Down Royal last time (where he did well to finish second) and gets the narrow verdict.

Hard Bought - 15:15 Clonmel

The feeling remains that Hard Bought is on a workable handicap mark (won off 11 lb higher over hurdles in 2015), and after shaping like a non-stayer over 22.5 furlongs at Galway last time (had travelled smoothly into the race) he is worth another chance now back at a more suitable trip. By The Banks would have finished a bit closer last time but for a late error and he looks the main danger.
