Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Thursday July 28

It's day four of the Galway Festival on Thursday
It's day four of the Galway Festival on Thursday

It's Galway Hurdle day on Thursday and Timeform pick out their three best bets on the card.

"This will be Superb Story's fourth start for Skelton and he may well still have more progress to make."

Xsquared - 14:25 Galway

Tiger Roll won the 2014 Triumph Hurdle and has taken well to chasing, winning his first two starts and then seemingly being stretched by the longer trip last time at Killarney. He sets the standard, but it could be worth chancing Xsquared, who completed a cross-code hat-trick with a career-best effort over fences at Wexford last time. He remains open to further improvement over fences and can continue his excellent start for Peter Fahey with a fifth win for his new trainer today. Neverushacon bettered his hurdling form on his second chasing start last time and could also figure.

Daredevil Day - 15:00 Galway

Daredevil Day just failed to pin back the re-opposing Ruler of France in first-time cheekpieces at Ballinrobe ten days ago, but he now gets a 4 lb swing in the weights with that rival and is expected to reverse that form here today with Pat Smullen taking over in the saddle. Daredevil Day scored from a 6 lb lower mark than this in 2014, and is worth chancing to go one better than last time today. Hidden Oasis and Total Demolition both caught the eye last time and are also ones to consider.

Superb Story - 16:45 Galway

Dan Skelton has already taken down two of the more valuable British summer jumps prizes, the Summer Plate and Summer Hurdle, at Market Rasen earlier in the month, and he now sets his sights on the feature handicap of the Galway Festival the Galway Hurdle. His runner Superb Story was laid out for the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on the back of a four-month break, and after a similar amount of time off the track before today's race he looks to have a good chance of landing a memorable double from a 7 lb higher mark. This will be Superb Story's fourth start for Skelton and he may well still have more progress to make. Willie Mullins' pair of Clondaw Warrior and Bamako Moriviere head a strong home defence.
