Timeform's Irish team have three bets from today's card at Naas...
"The Stephen Ryan-trained gelding is on a roll currently, having scored by eight lengths over this C&D on his previous outing, and he looked to have a bit in hand at Punchestown despite the narrow margin, in control when not fluent at the last."
Lake Field - 15.05 Naas
Lake Field has thrived for a change of yard this winter and can continue on the up in this two mile handicap hurdle. Winless in thirteen starts for former trainer Noel Brett, Lake Field took just two starts to get off the mark for the Shay Barry yard, showing improved form in the process when landing a two mile handicap at Tramore. Lake Field would have continued his progress--and defied an 8 lb rise in the weights--but for falling at the last in a similar event at Limerick later in December, having the race at his mercy at the time. A further 4 lb rise looks lenient all things considered and he can gain
Rolling Rocket - 15.40 Naas
Rolling Rocket and Mount Brandon finished first and second in a two mile handicap chase at Punchestown in late-December and the pair are fancied to come to the fore again here. Rolling Rocket came out on top by three quarters of length that day against Mount Brandon--who was making his handicap debut over fences--and is fancied to do so again despite being 1 lb worse off at the weights this time. The Stephen Ryan-trained gelding is on a roll currently, having scored by eight lengths over this C&D on his previous outing, and he looked to have a bit in hand at Punchestown despite the narrow margin, in control when not fluent at the last. Rolling Rocket is taken to complete his hat-trick here.
Articulum - 4.10 Naas
The Emmet Mullins-trained newcomer The Comediologist is all the rage in the betting in the bumper that concludes proceedings at Naas, though that might lead to a value price about our selection Articulum, who has the best form of those in the field who have already run in bumpers. A winner in points, Articulum was a distant third on his bumper debut at Punchestown in April but stepped up appreciably on that form when beating all bar one of his sixteen rivals in a maiden at Thurles on his reappearance in December, going down by just a length to Jessica Harrington's newcomer New To This Town. With the step up to nineteen furlongs likely to suit Articulum well here, he can go one better.
