Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Pageboy shouldn't have to play second fiddle

As the Listowel Festival enters it's sixth and penultimate day, our Irish Team have another three win selections, all of them coming on the level.

"the manner in which he [Pageboy] disposed of the hat-trick seeking White Feathers in a minor hurdle at Cork last time marked him out as a much improved performer and it will be a surprise if he can't justify favouritsim in an ordinary contest"

Both last-time-out winners look opposable in the opening handicap on the card and Jackemil (13:55) is worth giving a chance to build on the promise of her run here earlier in the week. John Walsh's filly showed a good deal more than of late when third to Jappeli in a handicap here earlier in the week, looking the most likely winner entering the straight but probably paid the price for racing close to an overly-strong gallop, faring best of those to race prominently in the end. Allowed to race from the same mark this afternoon, Jackemil looks a spot of value at around 5.59/2.

David Wachman's Pageboy (14:25) has created a big impression in reaching a useful level over hurdles since last seen on the Flat and can carry that improvement back onto the level in the 12-furlong maiden on the card. The form he showed when making the frame in a couple of Leopardstown maidens in 2011, entitles him to plenty of respect regardless of what he's achieved over timber since, but the manner in which he disposed of the hat-trick seeking White Feathers in a minor hurdle at Cork last time marked him out as a much-improved performer and it will be a surprise if he can't justify favouritsim in an ordinary contest.

Our Breff (16:55) caught the eye on his handicap debut at Clonmel earlier this month and makes plenty of appeal despite the slight drop in trip. Having hinted at ability in maidens, he showed much improved form when a never-nearer third to Missunited (winner again since) last time, finishing well after being forced to switch in the straight. The testing conditions will hopefully negate the fact that this is a furlong shorter, and the useful Andrew Thornton again takes off a handy three pounds.
