Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Mullins and Walsh the men to follow at Listowel

Willie Mullins looks set for a good day at Listowel

It is the final day of the Listowel Festival today and we have picked out three more SmartPlays on a truncated card....

"Tarla looked destined for big things when readily accounting for a big field in a Grade 3 mares event over hurdles at Punchestown in late 2009/10..."

Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh look set to dominate the action at Listowel today and they can get the ball rolling with Reine Angevine in the opening maiden hurdle at 14:30. She built on debut promise to readily land a bumper at Killarney last time and wouldn't need to be anything out of the ordinary to beat the relatively exposed Enchanted Forest. Reine Angevine is sure to have been well schooled and this race won't take a great deal of winning.

The best bet on the card looks to be Fair Dilemma in the handicap hurdle at 15:35. This one has improved significantly since joining Jimmy Mangan's yard and wasn't winning out of turn when making all in a maiden chase here last Sunday. He finished second in a handicap chase last month off a mark of 107, but is able to compete off a much lower mark in this sphere and the drop back to two miles won't inconvenience him in the conditions. This isn't a strong contest, even for the grade, and jockey Harley Dunne has really been making a name for himself of late.

The most interesting race on the card is the Slan Abhaile Flat race at 16:10 and, although a case can be made for quite a few of them, the two to concentrate are the in-form mares Missunited and Tarla. Missunited has won four of her last five starts, but she faces a stiff task in attempting to give weight to Tarla who also comes into this in top form. Tarla looked destined for big things when readily accounting for a big field in a Grade 3 mares event over hurdles at Punchestown in late 2009/10, but she has obviously had her problems since as she wasn't seen again until winning on the Flat at Roscommon in July. That didn't tell us anything new about her but she showed that all her old ability remains intact when running out a wide margin winner of what looked a competitive conditions event over hurdles at the same track last time. Conditions won't worry her and she is open to improvement in this sphere.
