Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Monday July 18
Timeform pick out three bets from Ballinrobe's evening meeting on Monday.
"He should be suited by the step up to this trip based on his pedigree (dam stayed 10f and his half-sister stayed 12f)..."
Fire Tree - 18:55 Ballinrobe
Kandahari is open to further improvement after a promising handicap debut last time but is opposable on account of her yard's form (without a winner in either code since March) and this looks a good opportunity for Fire Tree, who ran his best race to date when third at Dundalk back in April over a mile. He should be suited by the step up to this trip based on his pedigree (dam stayed 10f and his half-sister stayed 12f), though strictly a reproduction of his last effort would probably be enough to take this race and return him to winning ways.
Northern Sky - 20:00 Ballinrobe
This looks to be between Belarusian, who shaped well on handicap debut over 10f at Leopardstown last time (slightly short of room over 1f out) and the three-year-old Northern Sky who was suited by the test of stamina when getting off the mark in first-time blinkers at Sligo last time. Northern Sky should be suited by this step up in trip based on that last effort, and narrowly gets the verdict at the prices. The others make limited appeal in truth, and the two principals in the market should have the race between them.
Taqaseem - 21:00 Ballinrobe
The best option looks to be Taqaseem, who showed improved form to finish second on handicap debut at Fairyhouse last month on just his fourth career start. He was strong at the finish over a mile and a half that day, so the extra furlong should not be an issue here, and he looks to have been found a good opportunity to get off the mark, considering current favourite Swamp Fox is a ten-race maiden.
