Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Jezki to continue on the up

Jessica Harrington: Trainer of Jezki.

Plenty of quality racing to get stuck into in Ireland today and our Irish team have win bets at both Leopardstown and Limerick on a busy afternoon...

"The return to a left-handed track should suit given how he [Jezki] jumped at Fairyhouse and he deserves to be shorter than 2.56/4..."

Prince de Beauchene is an intriguing contender in the minor event at 13:05, but Clonbanan Lad ticks plenty of the right boxes tackling beyond 2m for the first time over hurdles, and that, coupled with recent runs under his belt, could be enough for him to score. A smart bumper performer in 2011/12, Clonbanan Lad ran out a comfortable maiden hurdle winner at Punchestown on debut for this yard in October before understandably finding things too tough in the Royal Bond next time. With doubts over Prince de Beauchene's fitness and effectiveness at the trip, Henry de Bromhead's runner looks overpriced at 4.47/2.

The Grade 1 novice hurdle on the card looks a typically competitive renewal, but Jezki (14:00) stands out on Timeform ratings and will continue to take all the beating. Useful in bumpers last season, he's improving in leaps and bounds over timber, winning a Naas maiden in October, Grade 3 there in November, and then the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse on latest, looking to have a bit to spare when beating Champagne Fever by over a length. The return to a left-handed track should suit given how he jumped at Fairyhouse and he deserves to be shorter than 2.56/4.

Sumkindasuprstar (14:50) was a C&D winner at this Limerick meeting last year and went on to add further wins at Clonmel and Roscommon in the first half of this year. He ran well again when staying-on third at Fairyhouse after a break last time, clearly unsuited by the drop back in trip and looks to be on a handy mark at present. He should strip fitter for that run, is quickly refitted in cheekpieces, and is certain to relish the extra distance this afternoon. He makes substantial each-way appeal at around 9.08/1 in the current Betfair market.
