Timeform's Irish team return with three bets from this afternoon's card at Fairyhouse...
"A patient ride on a sharp track looked against her that day, running on late after outpaced, and this stiffer test on a galloping track (and more testing ground) could well bring about further improvement from a mare who looks to have plenty of stamina."
Altiepix - 12.45 Fairyhouse
The maiden chase that opens proceedings lacks any sort of depth, and with Thekingofconemara well out of sorts, Altiepix and Curragh Na Gold are the two to concentrate on. With not much between them in the betting at the time of writing, our strong preference is for Altiepix, who already has the superior form of the pair after just one outing over fences and who has the greater potential for further improvement (Curragh Na Gold has had three runs over fences and is clearly vulnerable to less-exposed sorts). The Gordon Elliott-trained Altiepix was ultimately well held in third behind the useful pair Pleasant Company and Montys Meadow on his chase debut at Punchestown last month, though he shaped with a fair degree of promise all the same. Altiepix doesn't have anything of their calibre in opposition here and can take advantage of what looks a good opening here for his in-form yard.
Sunsetstorise - 13.15
Sunsetstorise is still a maiden after twenty-one outings under Rules, but he's gone close on several occasions, including at Punchestown on his latest outing earlier this month, and he gets the nod in this ordinary handicap chase. The Francis Flood-trained gelding has taken a while to match his fair hurdles form over fences but has generally been in much better form this winter than last, finishing second on two of his last three outings (all in handicaps), and his latest second over two and a half miles at Punchestown, when going down by four and a half lengths to Flemenstorm under a more positive ride than has been the case of late, represents his best effort yet over the larger obstacles. From a mark just 2 lb higher, he has good claims of belatedly breaking his maiden if turning up in similar form.
15.35 - Easy To Find
Easy To Find and Shannak look the pair to concentrate on in this handicap hurdle, and it's the former who looks likely to represent much the better value. A point winner, she has shaped with plenty of promise on both of her outings in handicaps, including when fourth at Musselburgh over this sort of trip earlier in January. A patient ride on a sharp track looked against her that day, running on late after outpaced, and this stiffer test on a galloping track (and more testing ground) could well bring about further improvement from a mare who looks to have plenty of stamina. She looks a good value bet in a market dominated by recent course winner Shannak.
