It is day one of the two-day Irish Oaks meeting at the Curragh and we have come up with three more SmartPlays....
"Ebazan may not need to improve to land this and is worth backing at short odds."
Battleroftheboyne has been a frustrating horse to follow this season, making the frame on seven of his twelve outings without managing to get his head in front, but on the flip side his consistency is hard to knock and he should give another good account in the sprint handicap at 15:15. Michael Mulvany's gelding tends to go well at this track (won a pair of C&D contests last year) and he has been freshened up after a rare below-par effort at Bellewstown last time. He represents some strong form lines, remains on a fair mark and will have to be of interest for place purposes at least again.
The seven-furlong handicap at 16:45 is a trappy affair in which it is possible to make a sound case for all seven runners. The bang in-form Custom Cut is sure to attract plenty of attention again but it may pay to side with Imaginationrunwild who has shaped better than the bare result on both of her last two starts. She was noted putting in some good late work in the race won by Rock On Ciara here on Derby day prior to getting run out of things close home following an aggressive ride at Roscommon last time. Imaginationrunwild has some room for manoeuvre from her current mark, is proven in these conditions and hails from a yard that could hardly be in better form.
John Oxx has just two runners at his local track today and the master of Currabeg will be disappointed if he doesn't return home with a double. Takar looks as if he merely has to turn up to win the Minstrel Stakes and Ebazan has much the best form on offer in the concluding maiden at 17:15. From a family that the yard has enjoyed lots of success with, Ebazan was only just touched off by the subsequent listed winner Aklan on debut here in April and that race is working out particularly well. Ebazan may not need to improve to go one better here and is worth backing at short odds.
