Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Adam's set for a Return to best

Leopardstown is the venue for this evening's Irish action.

A quality Flat card at Leopardstown this evening provides us with three good betting opportunities.

"A tough and consistent sort, Adam's Return shed his maiden tag when winning a seven furlong handicap here last July, and is just 1 lb higher in the weights this evening..."

Course-and-distance specialist Strandfield Lady makes the most appeal in the opening handicap (18:25) on the card and is expected to record her seventh success here. Harry Rogers' tough mare has recorded all of her turf wins over ten furlongs at this track, including when proving better than ever to beat Barack last week. She's very hard to oppose under just a 5-lb penalty this evening.

The John Oxx pair of Takar and Akeed Wafi make the most appeal in the mile listed contest (19:30), with preference for the former who created a big impression before failing to give his running in the Irish 2000 Guineas last time. The son of Oratorio landed a seven furlong listed race at the Curragh on his return, showing a good turn of foot to beat Coolnagree by over a length, and is the preferred choice of Johnny Murtagh.

Man of Erin is sure to be popular going for a hat-trick in the penultimate race (20:35), but Adam's Return shaped well over this course and distance on his return and makes more appeal at the likely prices. A tough and consistent sort, Adam's Return shed his maiden tag when winning a seven furlong handicap here last July, and is just 1 lb higher in the weights this evening. The promising claimer Shane Gray also takes off a very handy seven pounds.
