Most of the runners in the opening maiden at 14:45 are unproven at the trip, making for a tricky contest, but it could be worth risking Gulf of Alaska who has a stamina-laden pedigree (half-brother to Veracity who won over two miles-plus) and he could easily leave his efforts at seven furlongs well behind now granted a stiffer test. He wasn't seen in 2012, and didn't show much on his debut for this yard earlier in the year, but he came back at Meydan recently with a promising fifth behind Comicality, slowly away and staying on steadily as befits one who simply wasn't quick enough to be winning at seven furlongs. Tarbawi sets a standard of sorts but he is surely flattered by his official rating and Gulf of Alaska is likely to represent value against that one.

There looks to be plenty of pace on in the 15:20 with Al Farahidi, Momaris, Jamhoori and Darwin Award all potential front-runners and that should play to the strengths of Al Razi who can look awkward at times but did win three times last season. After such a spree, there is a chance the handicapper has his measure, and he was beaten on his final four starts, but he is a quirky sort who can keep a bit back for himself and is well suited by strongly-run races, as this looks like being on paper. Richie Mullen appears to have chosen to ride Darwin Award out of the two Satish Seemar runners but Marc Monaghan gets on well with this horse and is good value for his claim.

Innocuous went into many a notebook when second behind the Carnival-bound Chasing Halos on his reappearance and he should make a bold bid to go one better in the sprint handicap at 17:05. He covered loads of extra ground that day from stall 10, doing very well to be involved and he should hopefully get a smoother run through from stall three on this occasion. His record at the start of last season was a good one and he looks set for more of the same this time around.
