Timeform Dubai SmartPlays: Meydan, Thursday December 20

Stephen has picked out three bets from Meydan

Timeform's Dubai expert Stephen Molyneux has lined up three bets for you at Meydan...

The 15:40 features a couple who have Carnival aspirations, none more so than Tanfeeth and he looks ready to strike after two promising efforts this season...

Only 3 or 4 can realistically be fancied in the opening maiden at 14:30 and whilst Blue Sea has over a stone to find on official ratings with both Maali and Hazaz, he's not had as many chances and is fancied to get his head in front. He used to be trained in France where he finished second on a couple of occasions, including over 11f, and he very much shaped as though a step back up in trip would suit when finishing third to Surfer over 1m on his UAE debut recently. He looked sure to drop away completely that day once headed by the winner and Interpret (impressive winner last week), but rallied to regain third close home. Maali and Hazaz have both previously been in the care of Clive Brittain and their ratings are possibly inflated due to seemingly good efforts in the face of unrealistic assignments and, perhaps most significantly, both have spurned opportunities when dipping down into this sort of company.

The 15:40 features a couple who have Carnival aspirations, none more so than Tanfeeth and he looks ready to strike after two promising efforts this season. He was a winner on his UAE debut in January over this C&D but only made it to the track once more last season when finishing a highly creditable fifth behind Fox Hunt. He started this campaign over 1m, a trip very much on the sharp side for him and duly built on that when finishing fourth to Zain Shamardal last time, travelling strongly but just left a bit too far out of his ground, gaining at the finish, and this extra furlong should enable him to reverse form with Rochdale from that race.

The concluding event at 17:15 is probably the most interesting race on the card featuring the reappearance of Mufarrh who last seen finishing second behind Skysurfers in the 2011 Godolphin Mile. He will be tough to beat if at his very best but it seems reasonable to assume that he will need this ahead of bigger targets and he is taken on with Reynaldothewizard who is also reappearing, but, crucially, seems at his very best when fresh. He posted a career-best effort on his seasonal debut last campaign, comfortably getting the better of Barbecue Eddie and the strength of that form has been well advertised in the meantime. He did rather go off the boil afterwards but he was tackling Carnival handicaps so he can be forgiven that and it will be a surprise if he doesn't bounce back here.

Back Blue Sea in the 14:30 @ Meydan
Back Tanfeeth in the 15:40 @ Meydan
Back Reynaldothewizard in the 17:15 @ Meydan
