Timeform Dubai SmartPlays: Jebel Ali, Friday January 24
Fresh from a winner at Meydan yesterday, Timeform's Dubai expert, Stephen Molyneux, brings you his three best bets from Jebel Ali...
The 12:25 is choc-full of disappointing and exposed sorts but Unknown Zone is anything but that and will hopefully build on the promise of his run last week now tackling a handicap for the first time...
Kala Kanta is hardly the most consistent but he does win in his turn and that turn will hopefully come in the 10:45. He certainly shaped as though back in some sort of form last time, finishing third behind Blue Tiger's Eye at Meydan, forcing the pace that day and doing well to hang in there given he probably went off hard enough. He should find this easier to dominate and given he is now 7 lb below his last winning mark, he makes plenty of appeal.
United Colour could well dominate the market in the 11:55 given he pushed Russian Rock close here last time but he carries a penalty in this and with his stable remaining in the doldrums, he looks opposable. Youm Mutamiez is the one to take him on with. He was only third behind Capital Attraction here last time and my first impressions were that he was a touch disappointing but the winner has since come out and taken a Carnival event, so in hindsight it was probably a more than respectable effort. Seven furlongs on dirt are his ideal conditions and it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see him make all.
The 12:25 is choc-full of disappointing and exposed sorts but Unknown Zone is anything but that and will hopefully build on the promise of his run last week now tackling a handicap for the first time. There is no doubt that he is on a stiff enough mark but his seventh placing behind Earl Of Carrick last week was a definite step in the right direction, making the running and still on the bridle 2f out before being swallowed up. He is dropping quite markedly in trip here, which should suit, and with few miles on the clock (this will just be his fifth outing) it seems reasonable to assume that he could improve again, Royston Ffrench taking over from a 7 lb claimer ticking the final box.
