Bets Of The Day: Polished Steel ready to graduate
With no racing in Britain Nick Shiambouros turns his attentions to Thurles where he has two selections...
"I think he will appreciate the return to maiden company and is fairly priced at [4.7] on the exchange"
Steel a tough customer
14:15 Thurles - Polished Steel
Polished Steel should make his presence felt in this maiden hurdle.
This gelding finished third to King Of Brega in a handicap hurdle over this course last month. He met a fair bit of interference on the run to the final flight, which cost him momentum. It is difficult to know if he would have prevailed, but would have finished closer. I think he will appreciate the return to maiden company and is fairly priced at [4.7] on the exchange.
Gordon Elliot sends out Final List who is the current favourite at [3.35] on the exchange. He finished a creditable second to Valdieu at Naas last month, but does have to concede weight all round.
Spyglass to deliver
15:25 Thurles - Spyglass Hill
Spyglass Hill looks like the horse to beat in this maiden hurdle.
This gelding put in a much improved effort when finishing second to Routes Choice in a handicap hurdle at Limerick in December. He was headed on the run to the last, but kept on well to hold on to the runner-up spot in a dead-heat with Cappacurry Zak. I think he is sitting on a big effort and is reasonably priced at [3.25] on the exchange.
Castle Oliver looks like the danger. He won a Fairyhouse bumper in determined fashion last month and is open to further improvement. He does have to carry a penalty ,which makes life tougher. At present he is trading at [4.2] on the exchange.
