Alan's best bet of the day won at Chepstow yesterday and this is his final day in the chair this week, looking to finish on a high with one to back and one to lay at Towcester...
"The stable are also in fine form and tend to do well at this track, Malibu Sun loves it in front, he's an exceptional jumper and travels very strongly."
Ben Pauling's Malibu Sun doesn't exactly jump off the page as a likely winner of this race when you are looking at his recent form, in fact the horse has more letters in his last six starts than numbers (UP6P-P7) and his finishes haven't exactly been close. However, he did win this race last year and is two wins from two starts at the track and with Nico de Boinville on board he has a partner that he knows well, Nico has won five times on Malibu Sun from his nine rides on him.
After being off the course for 168 days before his last start at Southwell over 2m 4f last month where he was beaten eight lengths into seventh behind Cusheen Bridge, that race may well have been required to bring the horse on. The stable are also in fine form and tend to do well at this track, Malibu Sun loves it in front, he's an exceptional jumper and travels very strongly. Providing he finishes the race (and that is a problem for him) he could be difficult to get past and I am prepared to give him a chance @ 6/1 on the Sportsbook.
13:55 Towcester - Gee Hi LAY @ 1.84/5 Exchange
Gee Hi from the Warren Greatrex yard could go off a very short price here after his 24 length success last time out at Bangor. He was sent off the 5-4 favorite that day and while he won impressively, I am not sure it was that strong a race. He could also be anchored by the 7lb penalty that he carries today from that last win. I think he could well go off too short because of that emphatic success last time out and therefore the value is in opposing him.
Earlier this week I tried to find one to beat a short priced favourite and unfortunately despite getting the favourite beat I picked the wrong one. This time I think there are a few in the field that could cause the odds-on shot trouble, so rather than trying to find the winner, I am happy to take Gee Hi on by laying him @ 1.84/5 or less.
