Alan's final day in the chair and he is looking to finish the week with two selections from Southwell and Warwick...

"Dropping back to six furlongs today and the first time visor could be just what he needs to finally get his head in front."

14:40 Southwell - Rupert Boy @ 11/4 Sportsbook

The in-form Southwell specialist Scott Dixon runs Rupert Boy in this handicap today and he has been running well without getting getting penalised off the handicapper. He has tried 10 times to break his maiden tag but today he is off a very favourable mark of 48, dropping back to six furlongs today and the first time visor could be just what he needs to finally get his head in front.

He has filled the runners up spot on his last two starts at the track, beaten a head last time, the third home that day has since come out and won a very similar contest to this.

I got the Dixon runners completely wrong on Tuesday, much to my displeasure, so I am hoping I am not making the same mistake twice in a week.

No doubt this is a competitive field but the next three in the betting are all making their debuts on the fibresand surface and potentially the biggest threat Wishsong is carrying a 6lb penalty for winning last time out at Wolves. I think this is an ideal opportunity for Rupert Boy to get into the winners enclosure.

14:55 Warwick - Herbert Park @ 6/1 Sportsbook

Herbert Park won three of his five races last year for David Pipe but for some reason he hasn't been able to reproduce that form this season. He unseated Tom Scudamore at Cheltenham in November and finished second last when we last seen him at Wincanton. However, the step up to three miles two furlongs and the first time blinkers could bring about the change required.

He won over three miles in his final race last season but was dropped back in trip for his opening two starts this campaign. There is no doubt that the six -year-old gelding will make a fine chaser, but there are still some hurdling opportunities before that. If he can bounce back and show some of the promise he delivered last season then he could be well treated in this off a mark of 130.
