Timeform pick out three bets from the Vaal on Thursday.
Captain My Captain represents the red-hot Mike de Kock stable and when you add that to his form of late he looks very difficult to oppose here. Four places from five starts were topped with a length and three-quarter second to Combat Muster here at Vaal last month, when he was raced a lot nearer the pace before being caught close home. The son of the great sire Captain Al is dropped back to the five furlongs here and may well attempt to make all the running, and if Captain My Captain gets to the front, he ought to prove extremely hard to catch.
Arabian Beat appears attractively weighted in this six furlong handicap off a rating of 78 and following a highly respectable half-length second to Golden Man in a slightly better race last time out. He meets the winner on two pounds better terms this afternoon which may well be enough to turn the tables, and although a five-year-old, he still seems to be improving after fifteen starts, which may be what sees Arabian Beat come home in front today.
Secret Harbour - 14:45 Vaal
Secret Harbour ran an absolute blinder last time in what looked a far better race on paper when fourth to Broadway Trip at Turffontein last time out, beaten under four and a half lengths despite meeting a spot of trouble in running. Granted a clear run today in this easier contest, Paul Matchett's gelding can turn around September form with Manitoba over this longer trip, giving Secret Harbour an outstanding chance at the prices under jockey Gunter Wrogemann.
