MOTAFAAWIT - 15:20 Beverley
The fact that MOTAFAAWIT was only denied a head by the smart Legends of War at Newbury on his second start last year suggests that he should prove much better than a mark of 90 this term, particularly as he has the pedigree to make a better three-year-old. Also gelded during the winter, he looks sure to take all the beating under Jim Crowley, who is unlikely to be making the long journey up to Beverley for no reason - Motafaawit is his only ride on the card. Nefarious and King of Tonga, who represents the Richard Fahey yard that has won two of the last three renewals of this race, head the list of dangers.
DRAGON SUN - 15:55 Beverley
DRAGON SUN made light work of an opening mark of 65 at Lingfield last month, winning with a bit more up his sleeve than the bare margins would imply, having been forced to contend with trouble in-running on the home turn. With further improvement on the cards after only four starts, there's every chance that this fairly expensive breeze-up acquisition will go in again, with a 7 lb rise in the weights more than fair. Strawberry Jack is feared most, while Defence Treaty could find improvement now handicapping and completes the shortlist.
KYLIE RULES - 16:55 Beverley
Formerly trained by Ann Duffield, KYLIE RULES showed much improved form to get off the mark on her debut for the Ruth Carr yard over C&D last week, hitting the front two out and quickly forging clear thereafter, winning by eight lengths with any amount in hand. Connections have understandably taken the decision to turn her out quickly under a penalty here, effectively 4 lb well-in compared to her new mark, and she looks sure to mount a bold follow-up bid if arriving in the same sort of form, with the prospect of even more to come on just her second start for Carr.
