Through The Card: Wolverhampton, Monday June 20
Timeform take you through the card at tonight's meeting at Wolverhampton.
"If there is a man to get him back on track, it is O'Meara..."
18:10 - A tricky race to weigh up, but Kissy Suzuki won a maiden here last season, and has understandably struggled somewhat in handicaps since then after being handed a stiff looking opening mark. It is slightly concerning to see her at this level after just a handful of starts, but she should give a good account. Though Kenobe Star has yet to make much impact in four starts to date and has plenty to find on the balance of his form, he has not got a bad pedigree and the booking of Simon Walker catches the eye, so he could also be worth including.
18:40 - Black Grass has been making rapid progress of late for his in-form yard and should take all the beating under a penalty for his win at Redcar last time. He looks set to put in a bold bid to land a four-timer, but he faces competition for the lead from the likes of Entertaining Ben, and it could be worth also including Dutch Archer, who won well over C&D last time out on handicap debut and is likely to be out of the firing line early on. He could capitalise if the principals go too hard up front.
19:10 - Jacquard was sent off favourite for a York maiden earlier this month but ultimately went off too hard in front and faded back to fourth late on. He is worth another chance to improve on his debut second at Redcar and it is hard to see him out of the places here from a decent draw provided he is ridden with a little more restraint this time around. Mr Hobbs touched 1.01 in-running on the Exchange last time after going clear inside the final furlong, only to be closed down late on. He looks the obvious danger on form to Jacquard.
19:40 - Broughtons Fancy scored twice in selling/claiming company earlier this season, and after two subsequent good shows back in handicaps, she makes plenty of appeal now dropped back to this level. Silver Springs has been holding her form in handicaps this season without winning much and is on a tough mark as a result. It'd be no surprise to see a better display now dropped to this level, however, and she is also worth including for the Placepot.
20:10 - Magician Coutinho has been popular in the early markets on his first start for David O'Meara after leaving Geoffrey Oldroyd and remains open to improvement on handicap debut. However, he does not look well treated on the form he showed in maidens, and though more is clearly yet to come, he is worth taking on with his new yard not really firing on all cylinders at present. In theory Not Your Call could get an easy time of things in the lead, should his wide draw in stall 10 not provide too much of a hindrance. He is up 7 lb in the weights for his four-length win at Chelmsford last time, but should still give a good account if he isn't trapped wide. Mops Angel has been dropped in the weights once again and with her yard coming back to form in recent weeks she could also be worth including.
20:40 - Naqdy improved for his first outing when third over this C&D last time, but he shaped as if he was still learning after being slowly away and then staying on well once he knuckled down to finish best in the field. He is one of a number of interesting types on display along with Crystallographer, who should come on for his debut third which has worked out well since.
21:10 - Interesting to see What Usain attracting support on his first start for David O'Meara here, after landing a hat-trick at this track for his former trainer last season before going off the rails somewhat. If there is a man to get him back on track, it is O'Meara, and though his yard could be in better form, What Usain still looks a good betting option in the last race, just 3 lb above his last winning mark.
