Timeform take you through the evening card at Wetherby on Tuesday.
"He suffered a troubled passage in the closing stages and didn't see daylight until the race was all but over..."
17:40 - Alans Pride shaped much better than the beaten distance suggests on his return from over seven months off the track at Ayr last time and he remains on a very good mark if rediscovering the fair form he showed in six starts as a two-year-old. He proved disappointing on his only previous start at this trip, but has given the impression it would be within his range in the past and Alans Pride makes plenty of appeal with the Placepot in mind. He is joined by Bold Henmie, who heads the field on Timeform ratings after a comfortable victory at Wolverhampton in August and has showed improved form over hurdles since.
18:10 - Chevalier du Lac made a most pleasing racecourse debut at Beverley earlier this month and is entitled to improve with that initial outing under his belt. He is bred to be a fairly precocious sort (dam a winner over six furlongs as a two-year-old) and went close to making the perfect start to his career, just bumping into one too good on the day. The winner has since finished a close fourth in a listed race at York and - 4 lb clear of Jollydee on Timeform ratings - Chevalier du Lac is fancied to get the better of the newcomer Belle's Angel here.
18:40 - Sovereign Bounty returned from over nine months off the track with a creditable effort in defeat at Musselburgh last time, proving unsuited by the way the race panned out and giving the impression he would strip fitter for the outing. He suffered a troubled passage in the closing stages and didn't see daylight until the race was all but over, likely to have finished much closer to the front pair with a clear run. A winner at Beverley 12 months ago, he remains lightly-raced with only eight career starts in the book and Sovereign Bounty can regain the winning thread with better ground than last time also likely to be in his favour. Slemy is feared most on the back of a good second at Redcar last month.
19:10 - Casterbridge produced something like his very best form when third at Thirsk on his most recent start and pulled two lengths clear of the nearest rival on his side of the track. He can race off the same mark here and, with a drop back to this trip likely to see him in an even better light, Casterbridge looks to hold sound claims as he bids for the fourth victory of his career. He is joined in the Placepot by Cosmic Chatter, who is only 1 lb than when scoring at Beverley in August and, having showed a tendency to need his first couple of starts in each of the last three seasons, he should now be approaching something like full race fitness.
19:40 - Relight My Fire ran respectably on his return from over seven months off the track at Beverley last time, travelling well into contention with three furlongs to run, before the lack of a recent run began to tell in the closing stages. He showed the benefit of his first outing of the season when scoring next time in 2015 and a similar step forward should make him competitive in what looks an extremely difficult contest. The recent form figures of Artful Prince don't inspire much confidence, but a return to the form he showed to win at Ripon and Newmarket in June would make him extremely difficult to beat here and he is also considered for Placepot purposes.
20:10 - Gimlet produced a career-best on his handicap debut at Lingfield last month, appearing to relish the step up to a trip in excess of 1¼m for the first time and finding only a similarly unexposed rival too good. That was his first run in nearly five months and there were some definite signs of rustiness in the race, taking a while to find top gear when asked to deliver his challenge, but rallying to take a fair second in the final furlong. Kalamata's recent second suggests the handicapped might just have caught up with her, but Gimlet remains capable of better over this longer trip and he is expected to open his account at the fifth attempt.
20:40 - Haraz and Compas Scoobie are quite closely matched on Timeform ratings, but marginal preference is for the latter in a tricky conclusion to the card. He has 2 lb to find with Haraz on the figures, but found only a fairly useful prospect too good when second at Wolverhampton last time and is open to more improvement than his chief market rival after just two starts. He looks to have been found a good opening and, representing the powerful Roger Varian yard, Compas Scoobie can make the long trip north worthwhile with a win here.
