"Willoughby Hedge is undoubtedly interesting in this handicap chase, having shaped well prior to falling on his debut over fences at Newbury last month..."

13:50 - This is probably a no-bet race, but it'll still be an interesting one to watch given ex-French Fixe Le Kap won readily (albeit by just a length) for Nicky Henderson on his British debut and is generally 16/1 for the Triumph Hurdle. Fixe Le Kap should, and very probably will, win but it's probably worth taking Mystery Code in the Placepot given she's definitely the most interesting of the rest (hurdling newcomers Three Colours Red and Live Miracle were nothing special on the Flat) and the dividend will be much bigger should something happen to the odds-on favourite.

14:20 - Willoughby Hedge is undoubtedly interesting in this handicap chase, having shaped well prior to falling on his debut over fences at Newbury last month, but there is some potential for him to 'bounce' given that was his first start for 26 months, so he's not Placepot banker material. We'll also take fellow potential improver Bears Rails who appreciated the step up to three miles when fending off next-time-out winner Tanner Hill to make a winning chase debut at Fakenham in December. That was also just Bears Rails' second run in a handicap and he has sound prospects of shrugging off a 7 lb rise.

14:55 - It's risky to bank on one in a thirteen-runner staying handicap hurdle featuring plenty of recent winners, but it may prove the key to winning a decent amount from the Placepot. The money that has come for Knight of The Realm is interesting, and he wasted no time getting back on track (had won a handicap at Exeter in November) when second of fifteen to Amiral Collonges in a novice handicap at Ascot last month, when he was the only one to cover the winner's move three out before finding his effort telling late on. There's still some value in Knight of The Realm's current price of 6/1. Tambura, who should be well at home faced with this sort of test, and Battle Dust look his biggest dangers.

15:30 - A tricky race to assess given Surtee du Berlais has won two of her three hurdles starts and may do better still but has to give 12 lb all around, including to Mia's Storm who made a very promising debut when second in a listed bumper, while ex-French Buttercup makes her debut for Venetia Willams and Irish point winner Treaty Girl has her first start for Ben Pauling. If we've got this far it'd be annoying to go out trying to be clever, so we'll take the first two in the market, Mia's Storm and Surtee du Berlais (one of them bombing wouldn't actually be a bad result).

16:00 - Ten-year-old Mendip Express has clearly had his problems (prolific point winner but has run just ten times under Rules) but he's a high-class recruit to the hunter ranks having showed smart form in regulation races over fences (last seen at the Cheltenham Festival in March) and it'll be disappointing if he can't make a winning debut for Philip Hobbs and owner-rider David Maxwell here. However, like in the first race, it makes more sense to take Richmond in the Placepot as he's comfortably the second most interesting runner (made a fine start in this discipline when runner-up at Taunton recently) and we'll benefit plenty if Mendip Express blows out.

16:30 - In the hope we've had a result or two in the previous legs, we'll take a couple of the market principals here, namely Reilly's Minor, who was in front when falling at the last in an Irish point in October and new connections went to £46,000 to acquire him (he's by the same sire as their Cole Harden), and Shrewd Tactics, who was bought for a similar amount after making a winning debut in a similar race the same month.
