"He is unlikely to be improving at the age of 10, but Ian Williams has a good record with his recruits from other yards..."

14:00 - Trafalgar Rock boasted a fairly consistent record on the Flat for Mark Johnston, finishing first or second in nine of his 16 starts and signing off with a determined success at Musselburgh in October. He makes his hurdling debut for the Dr Richard Newland yard here and a clear round should be good enough to see Trafalgar Rock get off the mark at the first time of asking over obstacles.

14:30 - Nikki Steel showed improved form to make a successful debut for the Dr Richard Newland yard over this C&D 11 days ago and the manner in which he asserted in the closing stages suggests there should be more to come. That form leaves his rivals with 9 lb to find on Timeform ratings and Nikki Steel can provide his trainer with a quick double in this second leg of the Placepot.

15:00 - Minellaforleisure was in the process of running a good race when taking a heavy fall at Warwick last month and that effort did at least show that he could be competitive off an 8 lb higher mark than when successful at Cheltenham in April. He has been given a break since his unfortunate tumble that day and Minellaforleisure looks a fair price as he bids to defy a further 2 lb rise in the weights here. Great Hall has been running well in defeat of late and is also considered with the Placepot in mind.

15:30 - Gas Line Boy proved better than ever when second behind Katkeau at this venue in April and is weighted to reverse the form with that rival here. He is unlikely to be improving at the age of 10, but Ian Williams has a good record with his recruits from other yards and - sure to strip fitter with that outing under his belt - Gas Line Boy looks worth a small each-way investment at the current prices. Shuil Royale won this race last year and is also included in the Placepot after a decisive victory at Newton Abbot.

16:05 - Neworld returned to form with a fair third on his most recent outing at this venue, holding a narrow advantage as the field jumped the third flight from home and only giving way in the closing stages. He remains on a mark just 1 lb higher than when successful at Fakenham in December and Neworld is fancied to defy top-weight with the second win of his career. He is joined in the Placepot by Tom Wade, who was a winner here in June 2013 and is beginning to look dangerously well-handicapped.

16:35 - Sharp Rise was a commanding winner at Kelso in April and - bought out of Pauline Robson's yard for £32,000 after unseating his rider next time - he provided an immediate return on that investment with an easy victory at Worcester three weeks ago. That form leaves him 2 lb clear on Timeform ratings here and a similar effort would give him obvious claims in this final leg of the Placepot.

17:10 - Carre Noir has established himself as a fairly consistent performer in six starts for trainer Martin Hill and ran as well as ever when fourth here last time. He would have finished closer but for a mistake at the last and looks the most solid option in what looks a weak race on paper.

17:40 - Fly Camp made a promising debut in this sphere when second at Worcester recently, rallying gamely to get himself into contention and keeping on well to get within a length of the winner. He should improve with that experience under his belt and is expected to justify his prohibitive odds.
