17:30 - MAJOR VALENTINE (5) responded well when cashing in on a reduced turf mark at Catterick 10 days ago and the hat-trick is a distinct possibility following a 3 lb rise. Show Palace and Flicka's Boy have both won on their seasonal reappearance in the past and look the main dangers in this opening leg of the Placepot.

18:00 - HAVANA GREY (3) represents the Karl Burke yard that can ready a newcomer and makes plenty of appeal on pedigree (dam won over five furlongs as a two-year-old). He has been well supported in the market this morning and has to be considered for Placepot purposes. He is joined by NEOLA (8), whose dam won this race in 2012. She looks sure to run well for the same connections.

18:30 - FOREVER SONG (3) really catches the eye on breeding and is worth a second look for a yard who have made an excellent start to the season. CRYSTAL OCEAN (2) sets the standard of those with experience and is also considered in what could turn out to be a race to keep an eye on as the season unfolds.

19:00 - MAGIC BEANS (8) has all the hallmarks of a potentially progressive handicapper this season having shaped with promise over inadequate trips last season for a stable that often takes the patient approach, so he's taken to make a winning return at the expense of fellow handicap debutant Kitsey, with African Grey well respected provided his temperament can be kept in check.

19:30 - ROLLER (1) proved a cut above his rivals at Redcar on Monday and, with further progress likely, he is taken to follow up turned out under a penalty. Acrux has been gelded since last seen and better can be expected from him this season, while Wannabe Friends looks sure to be winning handicaps from this sort of mark too.

20:00 - SUWAAN (4) made a winning start for the in-form Ruth Carr stable at Newcastle last time despite using up plenty of energy in the first half of the race, so there's every reason to think this unexposed sort is still comfortably ahead of the handicapper following a 5 lb rise. Desert Sport, another last-time-out winner, is ranked as the main danger ahead of Fabric.

Recommendation:

Win back MAGIC BEANS in the 19:00 at Nottingham

Placepot permutation:

17:30 - 5
18:00 - 3, 8
18:30 - 2, 3
19:00 - 8
19:30 - 1
20:00 - 4
