"He remains a maiden after three starts over fences, but he put up by far his best effort in this sphere when third at this track in December..."

14:05 - Brain Power looks to hold sound claims of registering a second win over this C&D after a cosy victory here in November. He was a beaten favourite when only second at Musselburgh last time, but the winner that day, Charbel, was a creditable fifth in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle on Tuesday and that form gives Brain Power every chance of justifying his short odds here. He should win, with another C&D winner in Imperial Presence likely to give him most to do.

14:40 - Sam Twiston-Davies and Paul Nicholls had a good time of things at the Cheltenham Festival with three winners apiece and they could be back in the winners enclosure with Sirabad here. He remains a maiden after three starts over fences, but he put up by far his best effort in this sphere when third at this track in December and shaped as if a drop back to this trip would be in his favour. He can be forgiven a disappointing run over hurdles on his most recent outing and with the potential for improvement on this better ground, Sirabad is fancied to go close here. The consistent Always On The Run is respected after his C&D win last month, while Purple 'n Gold looks sure to relish today's conditions.

15:15 - Trainer Ben Pauling was extremely disappointed that A Hare Breath missed the cut for the County Hurdle and, having been trained to peak for that assignment, he reports his charge to be in peak condition for today's race. A well-backed winner at Cheltenham in November, he won a weaker race over this C&D last time and, although a strongly-run two miles would be likely to see him in a better light, today's ground conditions should ensure that his stamina lasts out in what is a highly-competitive race. Townshend is feared for his powerful connections, but our second Placepot selection comes in the shape of Simply A Legend. A creditable fourth at Ascot on his most recent start, Simply A Legend will be suited by today's sounder surface and he can improve his fine record at this venue (one win and a second from two starts) with another good run here.

15:50 - Trainer Paul Nicholls had expected Orbasa to run a big race in the Novices' Handicap on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival, but was forced into a change of plans after his charge missed the cut for his original target. An easy winner of his only start in this country at Fontwell last month, this race provides a good opportunity for horses like Orbasa to have a go at a big prize and this unexposed chaser can gain ample consolation for his connections who so narrowly missed out on a Cheltenham runner. The improving Cerunnos should go well if reproducing the form of his second at this track last time and is fancied to fill the forecast spot.

16:25 - Ballyhenry is a confident selection on the back of his determined success over this C&D recently. The form of that race looks strong, as the second was already a Grade 2 winner and the fifth looked sure to hack up at Sandown next time before inexplicably swerving and throwing away his chance in the closing stages. Atirelarigo could also boost confidence with a big run in the previous race, but Ballyhenry was ultimately a decisive winner on that occasion and is fancied regardless to confirm the positive impression he gave with a win here. Ten Sixty is the obvious danger and will make sure the selection doesn't have things all his own way.

17:00 - A hugely difficult race, where Georgie Lad and Muckle Roe could be the pair to concentrate on with the Placepot in mind. The former returns from 100 days off the track here, but he was a narrow winner on good ground at Bangor in October and, after disappointing on two subsequent outings, has most likely been saved for the arrival of similar conditions. Top-weight Muckle Roe is a reliable performer and, with this longer trip likely to suit, he looks to hold sounds claims of being in the frame once again.

17:35 - Difficult to come to any firm conclusions in what is another highly-competitive affair and a chance is taken with Golden Birthday. Third on soft ground at this track last time, she looks capable of better on a sounder surface and can improve her trainer's fine record with his bumper runners. Walt is better than he showed in that same bumper over this C&D and has claims, along with Show On The Road.
