"She will handle the heavy going today and arrives here after a good close-up fifth at Chepstow last time."

14:20 - We begin today's action with a small field, and what looks like a good opportunity for Alcala to score. Paul Nicholls' gelding has been running respectably since opening his account at Worcester in October, and he gets the nod to resume winning ways now back in novice company. The Fresh Prince has shown promise on his two hurdling starts to date and can give the selection the most to think about, whilst Wabanaki is also open to improvement.

14:55 - A tricky affair, with most of the runners either inconsistent or unreliable. A chance is taken on Matrow's Lady, who finally got off the mark over fences over a longer trip here in November. She will handle the heavy going today and arrives here after a good close-up fifth at Chepstow last time. Neil Mulholland's mare looks well treated if she is able to reproduce her best, though this is an open contest, and all six have some sort of a chance. The unreliable Goring Two could well give the selection the most to think about, having scored with something to spare at Plumpton last month and he could get competitive despite a 10 lb rise in the weights. Agincourt Reef remains with potential as a chaser and is also one to note.

15:30 - This should be an easy assignment for the useful Chef D'Oeuvre, after he was a creditable fourth in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last month. This represents a big drop in class, and it would be disappointing if Warren Greatrex's charge is unable to take advantage here. It's an intriguing battle for the minor money, and the step up in trip will suit bumper winner Blackdown Hills, who has claims for the runner up spot. Pawn Star could also figure if improving on his third at Ascot last time.

16:05 - A competitive contest, despite there only being a field of three. It's difficult to fancy the temperamental Golanova, who does have the ability to feature, but has something to prove having been pulled up last month after scoring at Leicester in November. There's little to separate the other two, but slight preference is for Showboater, who will have to prove his stamina now up in trip, but has looked a different proposition since going chasing and is open to more improvement than main rival Black Narcissus.

16:40 - A confident vote goes to Lee Side Lady, who has the strongest claims in this field having finished second at Fakenham 10 days ago, and may well prove hard to catch from the front from an unaltered mark. Claire Pet has claims for her new yard, who have a good record with similar recruits, whilst Eco Warrior suggested this sort of race would be well within his range when fourth in a stronger race at Sandown in December.

17:10 - We head into the unknown for the final contest, with four of the five runners making their first career starts today. Admiral Kid has the only form on offer, finishing third in an Irish maiden point last September, and that experience should stand him in good stead. The most interesting runner, however, is River Of Intrigue, who is taken to enhance his trainer's excellent record in bumpers. Nicky Henderson is actually 0/3 at this particular track over the last 12 months in this sphere, but his overall strike rate of 31% in bumpers at distances of 2m and under appeals, as does the fact that his runner is strong in the betting this morning. River Of Intrigue can make a winning debut, and also provide a first career success for jockey Alan Doyle, who's also making his first start under rules.
