"However, he is entitled to improve for that first taste of competitive action and ran well enough to suggest there is some ability in the locker..."

17:25 - Trainer Jamie Osborne could hardly be in better form at present and Secret Coin looks worthy of consideration in the Placepot after an encouraging racecourse debut at Bath eight days ago. She wasn't beaten far when fifth on that occasion and remains capable of better with that initial racecourse experience under her belt. Zig Zag Girl sets the standard on Timeform ratings, but she failed to make the expected progress from her first start when sixth at Beverley last time and Secret Coin could well be good enough to open her account at the second time of asking here.

17:55 - Hint of Grey failed to beat a single rival home in three starts as a two-year-old, but she showed much improved form to get off the mark on her handicap debut at Brighton last week and remains unexposed with just four previous outings to her name. A 6 lb penalty makes life tougher here, but she looked better the further she went on that most recent outing and gave the impression the step up to this 1½m would see her in an even better light. Indeed, Hint of Grey should prove extremely difficult to beat if arriving in the same form and is preferred to the consistent Tenzing Norgay in the Placepot.

18:25 - There was plenty of promise to be taken from Dark Amber's most recent start at Ascot and she looks interesting as she drops back into a Class 5 event here. She also comes into this race on a mark 1 lb lower than when successful at Goodwood in August and, although she was perhaps flattered by the way the race fell apart last time, a similar effort should still be good enough to see Dark Amber make the frame. She is joined in the Placepot by Suzi Icon, whose recent form figures don't inspire too much confidence, but doesn't look too harshly treated on her first start for a new yard.

18:55 - Threat Assessed showed his inexperience when eighth behind the useful Algometer on debut at Newbury in October, looking unsure of what was required when asked to deliver his challenge with two furlongs to run and never really threatening to get involved. However, he is entitled to improve for that first taste of competitive action and ran well enough to suggest there is some ability in the locker. Closely-related to the very smart Poet, that form leaves him with some 13 lb to find on Timeform ratings, but trainer Clive Cox has made a fine start to the new season and Threat Assessed can make the necessary improvement to score here.

19:25 - The Salmon Man remains lightly-raced after just four career starts on the Flat and he wasn't beaten too far when fifth on his handicap debut at Haydock last month. A gelding operation seemed to bring about an improved display on that occasion, overcoming a slow break to travel quite smoothly into contention, before the lack of a recent run began to tell in the closing stages. His breeding suggests he'll stay further in time, but he remains with potential to progress in handicaps at around this trip and The Salmon Man appears to hold better claims than most in another field that has been decimated by the recent rainfall.

19:55 - Indian Affair is a remarkably consistent performer and, having acquitted himself with credit on the all-weather through the winter, he produced a typically sound effort when third on his return to turf at Windsor eight days ago. His inability to run a bad race means that he holds few secrets from the handicapper, but he races off the same mark as when placed last time and - a close second on his most recent start at this venue - Indian Affair simply has to be included in the Placepot. He is joined by Fantasy Justifier, who looked in need of the run on his return from over seven months off the track last month and should do better here.

20:25 - A competitive finale and narrow preference is for Tarakkom, still relatively unexposed in the context of this race and a good third over the C&D last time. He possibly kicked for home a shade earlier than ideal on that occasion, but should be able to reverse the form with runner-up Fuzzy Logic on these terms, while Thimaar was also placed over the C&D on his most recent start and rates the main danger to the selection.
