"Instead, however, he switches to handicap company on what seems a workable mark with his yard among the winners, and could be worth backing over current favourite Kodi Da Capo..."

14:10 - Phijee was well supported on debut at Newbury last time and was unlucky not to justify that support in the end, having quickened to lead 1f out he ran green in the closing stages (after being matched at 1.01 on the Exchange) and was collared on the line by Mr Hobbs. He should have come on plenty for that experience and should be hard to beat here (some 7 lb clear of this nearest rival on Timeform ratings).

14:40 - Three Cs was progressing nicely in maidens, with two seconds on his last two starts (pulling well clear of the field with the winner on his last start at Epsom), and he would probably have been capable of winning a race in that sphere in time. Instead, however, he switches to handicap company on what seems a workable mark with his yard among the winners, and could be worth backing over current favourite Kodi Da Capo, who had plenty in her favour when winning at Hamilton last time.

15:15 - Sennockian Star has proven more hit than miss this season and after failing to build on a promising third at Ascot at Doncaster last time after being well backed, he is one to take on once again as favourite for Placepot purposes. Top of The Glas goes well over this C&D, having finished third and fourth in the last two runnings of the Cumberland Plate, and though probably vulnerable for win purposes (no excuses when fourth off 2 lb lower than this in this year's renewal), he should still run into a place in this less competitive event.

15:50 - Toffee Apple has been dropped 5 lb in the weights quite rapidly after being raised 9 lb on the back of her last win, which came at Beverley over 10f two starts back. As well as that steep rise in the weights, she was probably unsuited by the drop back to a mile at Ayr last time, and looks to have a much better chance of returning to winning ways today. She has proven consistent this season so far, holding her form well, and is worth banking on here.

16:25 - Apres Midi's Ayr second is working out well, with both the winner and third winning races since, and after two quick-fire starts in maidens last month, she could be ready to go one better here with that experience under her belt after being given a short break. She is given the nod over Organza, and could go close to providing the in-form Karl Burke team with another winner.

17:00 - Mister Royal is up another 5 lb after finishing second at Nottingham last time (pulled clear of the field with a three-year-old) but is clearly an improving horse and is worth including here along with Character Onesie, who has dropped to 3 lb below his last winning mark and now takes a drop in class after contesting better races than this in recent times.

17:35 - It is interesting to see the support for War Department as he makes his first start for Keith Dalgleish after spells with both William Haggas and Michael Bell. He clearly has ability (sent off 7/1 for last year's Coventry after an impressive Leicester maiden win) but has not shown much for some time, and is still one to just keep an eye on for now. This is an open race, and chances can also be given to the likes of Buccaneers Vault and Yulong Xiongba.
