"Sir Viktor remains open to more improvement at the minimum trip and is fancied to take advantage of what looks a lenient mark..."

13:50 - FORT BASTION (1) ran no sort of race when finishing a tailed-off last on his most recent outing at York, but showed that he retains plenty of ability when third at Ayr last month and this represents a far weaker race than he has been contesting of late. The form of that Ayr effort leaves him 13 lb clear of all bar Gramercy on Timeform ratings and, with that rival having an 11 month absence from the track to overcome, Fort Bastion looks the most solid proposition in this opening leg of the Placepot.

14:20 - MALDONADO (4) looked in need of the experience when fourth on his racecourse debut at Lingfield last month and showed the benefit of that outing with an improved display to finish second on his most recent outing at Newmarket. The first three pulled six lengths clear of the third on that occasion and - 10 lb clear of Third Order on Timeform ratings - Maldonado is expected to take another step forward and can open his account at the third time of asking.

14:55 - SIR VIKTOR (7) showed improved form to shed his maiden tag over the C&D last time, responding well when asked for his effort in the final furlong and quickly asserting his dominance thereafter. The bare form of that effort gives him 2 lb to find with Poet's Society and Orewa on Timeform ratings, but Sir Viktor remains open to more improvement at the minimum trip and is fancied to take advantage of what looks a lenient mark for his handicap debut.

15:30 - YORKINDRED SPIRIT (5) wasn't seen to best effect when fourth at Brighton seven days ago, suffering from interference as the field entered the final two furlongs and not given at all a hard time once it became clear her chance had gone. She had produced a fairly useful level of form to score at Yarmouth last month and, having slipped down to the same mark, Yorkindred Spirit deserves another chance to confirm the promise of that outing and should be thereabouts at a venue she has won at in the past.

16:05 - NORMANDIE LADY (2) showed improved form when successful on her most recent outing at Hamilton, staying on well to lead deep inside the final furlong and appearing to relish the step up to this trip for the first time. That form gives her the edge over Ninetta on Timeform ratings and, with a 5 lb hike in the weights offset by the claim of rising star of the weighing room, Adam McNamara, Normandie Lady is taken to follow up in this penultimate leg of the Placepot.

16:40 - PLANTATION (5) fared better than the bare result when third at Yarmouth last time, forced to wait for a gap as the field entered the final two furlongs and ultimately doing extremely well to get within a length and a half of the better-placed winner. He remains open to more improvement after just six starts in her short career to date and makes plenty of appeal with the Placepot in mind, a comment that also applies to COSMIC DUST (12). She proved better than ever when fifth on her most recent outing at Thirsk and shaped as if a return to this trip would be in her favour.

17:15 - LIMONATA may not be anywhere near as good as her illustrious half-brother Limato, but she appears to have enough ability to win a race or two and catches the eye making her handicap debut upped to a mile and a quarter for the final race on this afternoon's card at Beverley.
