Sunday Irish Racing Tips: Time For Mabel the value over hurdles at Killarney

There is something for everyone this afternoon with flat racing at Navan and jumps action at Killarney and Tony Keenan has found his best bets at both tracks...

"Time For Mabel looks well-overpriced. She’s been in good form on the flat and a hurdles mark of 117 could underrate her; she was third in the Lartigue Hurdle off the same rating last September when the well-treated pair Tigris River and Copy That were both sides of her and that race wasn’t run to suit."

Navan 13:45 - Most Beautiful to relish the drop to six furlongs

Race planners cop plenty of criticism for the opportunities they don't provide, but recent developments in the three-year-old sprint pattern reflect well on them and competitive races like this are a by-product of the new Commonwealth Cup. It was a strong race last year won by Muhaarar and the trials this season suggest it will be more of the same in 2016.

Washington DC is the one with most obvious claims of winning here and going on to Royal Ascot, but he might be worth opposing at short odds coming off a below par effort. Most Beautiful makes some appeal for all that the cheekpieces and jockey booking are concerns. Her third in the Debutante when surrounded by this year's 1,000 Guineas one-two-three is the best form in the race and she seemed not to get home over the seven furlongs either.

It was a similar story at Dundalk last time when she travelled about the best in the race won by Washington DC and she should come on plenty given it was her first run since the previous August.

Killarney 15:40 - Take Time For Mabel and Damut against the rest

Tempo Mac and Ancient Sands are solid but both will need to improve on their Punchestown runs off revised marks while two miles around here on fast ground could be an insufficient test for A Great View.

Time For Mabel looks well-overpriced. She's been in good form on the flat and a hurdles mark of 117 could underrate her; she was third in the Lartigue Hurdle off the same rating last September when the well-treated pair Tigris River and Copy That were both sides of her and that race wasn't run to suit. Damut is worth a saver. He was really progressive through the middle part of last year before finding three miles too far in a graded race but his last run at Punchestown was full of promise. He raced much too keen but still ran a massive race, trading at a low of 8.07/1 having been send off a Betfair Starting Price of 82.26 and should improve a lot for the run.

Navan 15:55 - Morga can take advantage of a tumbling mark

This race has boilover potential with doubts around the fancied runners; Laganore is a fast filly who may struggle over a stiff ten furlongs, Gallope is not the most willing in the finish while Ringside Humour has no great scope off this mark.

Morga looks a very big price as the outsider of the field. She shaped well over hurdles at Punchestown last month, racing freely but still involved in the race to the last hurdle, and while not the most consistent that run suggests she is in form. The flat handicapper has given her a real chance here, dropping her seven pounds since her last run, and she can go well. Maknificent is worth a small bet too. She shaped well on her return at Leopardstown before being caught out by a falsely-run race last time. These conditions look her optimum and she can outrun her odds.

Killarney 16:15 - De Bromhead can continue good run with Sizing Tennessee

Of the day's short-priced runners, Sizing Tennessee has a lot to recommend him. Henry De Bromhead does very well with his chase debutantes and he reported back in January that this one had schooled well over fences. De Bromhead has become more of a summer trainer in the past year or two, perhaps seeking to avoid some of the better Mullins horses, and had already had four winners since the end of Punchestown. Along with his owner Alan Potts, he has an affinity for this track and Sizing Tennessee should be hard to beat with a clear round.
