Sound Investment nearly landed the spoils at a huge price yesterday. Today Nick is back with a couple of selections from the last day of the Open meeting at Cheltenham...
"I think he is open to a fair bit of improvement and should go close"
13:00 Cheltenham - Drumlee Sunset
Drumlee Sunset could run well at a decent price in this fascinating contest.
This point winner finished second to Mister Miyagi over this course last month. He was headed at the last, but ran on well all the way to the line and finished a mile ahead of the third placed horse.
I think he is open to a fair bit of improvement and should go close. He is currently trading at 7.87/1 on the exchange. In addition he gets a healthy weight advantage which can only help his cause.
Maputo is the current favourite at 3.613/5. He was a Group 3 winner on the level and has taken well to hurdling. This Cape Cross gelding is unbeaten in four starts this term, but the water is much deeper today.
I am not certain he will carry his flat speed up the Cheltenham hill on ground with some give in it.
13:35 Cheltenham - Garde La Victoire
Garde La Victoire will be hard to beat in this intriguing contest.
This gelding was most impressive on his chasing debut when beating Bristol De Mai at Uttoxeter last month. He took the lead two fences from home and came clear to win easily.
He appears to have taken well to the larger obstacles and is bound to win more races. He is trading at 2.01/1 on the exchange which is just about right.
Paul Nicholls runs Calipto who beat Wadswick Court at Fontwell last month. He took the lead at the final fence and cruised home to win without being asked a question.
The Nicholls yard has a fantastic record in this race and he must be respected.
