Nick Shiambouros had a couple of second place finishes at Aintree yesterday but our man hopes for better fortune with two selections from the meeting at Market Rasen this afternoon...
"He comes in to this race a fresh horse and is fairly priced at 5.14/1 on the exchange"
14:15 Market Rasen - Closest Friend
Closest Friend should appreciate the return to novice company.
This gelding finished a respectable fifth to Presenting Arms in a handicap hurdle at Kempton last November. He held every chance two from home, but could only stay on at one pace when the pace lifted. He is best judged on his impressive victory over Jethro over this course last October in a novices' event.
He comes in to this race a fresh horse and is fairly priced at 5.14/1 on the exchange.
French import Dream Berry makes his UK debut. He was last seen at Auteuil when winning a conditions hurdle event. He must be respected, but remains an unknown quantity. He is a little short at his current price of 3.55/2.
14:45 Market Rasen - Orchard Boy
Orchard Boy is an interesting runner in this maiden hurdle.
This gelding was last seen on a racecourse in December 2014 where he finished a decent second to Kilgeel Hill on his hurdles debut. He clearly had had issues, but his conditioner has persevered with him and hopefully he has retained most of his ability.
I do not think this race will take a lot of winning, and I have backed him at his current price of 6.25/1 on the exchange.
Kerrow is the favourite at 2.9215/8. He has some fair form in the book and was in contention when falling behind Rock On Oscar at Doncaster in February. This race appears to his easiest task to date, but is a little one paced in my opinion and may be vulnerable.
