Timeform on Katy Royal

13:15 - STEEL CITY (1) looked in need of the run on reappearance at Newcastle last month, finishing last of nine, but it was an outing which served its purpose, as it prompted a 4 lb ease in the weights by the handicapper. He returned to form to finish third at Catterick 11 days ago, only losing second at the final flight. He's been put up 2 lb for that, but he's still lurking on a competitive mark, and this isn't the strongest of races. He's taken to score at the expense of recent winner Trooblue, who may fail to follow up under a penalty.

13:50 - INGLEBY HOLLOW (3) shaped better than the bare result when third on his most recent outing at Wetherby, left poorly placed in a race where those ridden prominently came to the fore, and doing well under the circumstances to be beaten only three lengths (never nearer than at the finish). He certainly showed enough to suggest that he is up to winning a race of this nature when things pan out differently for him, and this looks as good an opportunity as any for David O'Meara's charge to open his account. He's preferred to Torrid, who took a big step forward to finish second here last time, but needs to prove he can repeat that.

14:20 - BRIAC (4) was a faller on his chasing debut (and first start for Tim Vauaghan) at Hereford in November, but he's been productive in two starts since over hurdles, proving better than ever to score at Ffos Las last time. He was an easy winner that day, always travelling best and scoring by nine lengths, and on the same mark over fences here, he's fancied to win again. Beallandendall regularly finds one too good - he's finished second in each of his last four completed starts, and he can do so again.

14:55 - KATY ROYAL (5) will need plenty of luck given she's waited with to the extreme in her races, but she shaped well at Kelso last time, running on well having been handed a hopeless task from the position she was in, and she's on a fair mark if everything drops right - something which could well happen with a very weak pace forecast this afternoon. Perfect Pirate took a step back in the right direction when returned to this sphere at Warwick last time and could prove to be the biggest danger in a weak contest.

15:30 - WINDSOR AVENUE (3) failed to follow up his win at Hexham in November when only fourth at Newcastle at the beginning of December, but he wasn't seen to best effect in a tactical affair that day, being left with too much to do having been held up. There's plenty more to come from him in this sphere, however, and he's well worth another chance with Brian Hughes back on board. Second preference is for Hill Sixteen, who was runner-up in a competitive Chepstow race during the Christmas period.

16:00 - BERTIE BLAKE (6) disappointed at Wetherby last month, though it is worth noting that he wasn't helped by being challenged for the lead from an early stage that day. He had been running well prior to that, a trio of placed efforts read well in the context of this race, and he's likely to have it run much more to suit this time around. He can score at the expense of Raise Your Shades, who's a potential improver handicapping up in trip, while Our Delboy needs a market check on second run back.
