Nick Shiambouros was out of luck yesterday when his best bet finished second at [11.5] BSP. Nick hopes for better fortune today with two strong fancies from Newbury and Taunton...
"He appears to have everything in his favour and is fairly priced at [3.8] on the exchange"
15:00 Newbury - Kilbricken Storm
Kilbricken Storm should make the most of his abundant stamina in this fascinating contest.
This talented individual beat Count Meribel in a Grade 2 event over three miles at Cheltenham earlier this month. He burst in to the lead on the run to the line, and pulled clear to win easily. The conditions will be testing for this Grade 1 event but he has no stamina issues. He appears to have everything in his favour and is fairly priced at [3.8] on the exchange.
The filly Dame Rose won a Listed contest over this course earlier this month and will make a bold bid from the front. The main issue I have with her is that she is unproven over the trip, and this looks like a tough assignment for a four-year-old. She is the second choice at [4.2] on the Exchange.
15:15 Taunton - Maria's Benefit
Maria's Benefit looks like the horse to beat in this Listed race.
This rapidly improving mare beat Late Night Lilly in great style at Ludlow earlier this month. She pulled clear of her rivals over the final flight, and came home with plenty to spare. This was her third victory in a row and appears to have more to offer. I think she sets a decent standard and is fairly priced at [2.88] on the Exchange.
Sunshade is the clear favourite at [2.38]. This unbeaten filly made it three in a row when thrashing Black Sam Bella at Market Rasen earlier this month. This is tougher, and I think she will have her work cut out to overhaul the selection.
