Timeform on Forest of Dean
Ben Vrackie - 15:40 York
John Gosden sent out the 1-2 last year and holds a strong hand again courtesy of Ben Vrackie and Weekender, who was second 12 months ago. The former may well have found his latest Newmarket run coming too soon on the back of his excellent Royal Ascot reappearance behind Baghdad and is well worth another chance given his unexposed profile. King's Advice is a must for the shortlist, while Withhold's big handicap record merits him respect.
Pretty Pollyanna - 15:55 Newmarket
Pretty Pollyanna was a smart two-year-old, her most impressive performance coming over this C&D when winning the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes by seven lengths. She went on to win the Prix Morny on her next start, but hasn't managed to get her head in front since, and judged on her efforts this season, she is yet to improve as a three-year-old. It could be worth taking her on with Land of Legends, who is firmly on the progressive path, winning his last three starts, and he almost certainly has more to offer.
Forest of Dean - 16:45 York
22% - Frankie Dettori's strike rate at YORK
Forest of Dean has done nothing but progress since opening his account at Newcastle earlier this year, looking better than ever when winning a handicap at Glorious Goodwood last time, the extra emphasis on speed suiting him well. The handicapper has had his say since by raising him 7 lb, but there should still be more to come from him such was the manner of that success, and the track and ground here should suit him well.
