Alan's best bet of the day was narrowly touched off by a head yesterday but his second selection won making it a profitable start to the week. Today's selections go at Ascot and Lingfield...
"Wayne Hutchinson sent Criq Rock to the front two furlongs out and he powered away from the field under a hands and heels ride winning impressively by 11 lengths."
The Alan King trained Criq Rock could be worth an investment following an encouraging debut at Newbury in March, he followed that up with an eye catching performance at Bangor second time out. Wayne Hutchinson sent Criq Rock to the front two furlongs out and he powered away from the field under a hands and heels ride winning impressively by 11 lengths.
The four-year-old, who was a £40,000 purchase, is a half-brother to four talented winners and is being touted as a potential Champion Bumper horse, if he is to realise that potential then he has to be capable of winning this even under his penalty. The one I thought who could cause the most trouble is Paul Nichols Semper Invicta, but after reading Paul's column (read it here) I got the impression that may be a horse for another day.
Etaad has improved a lot since joining the Gary Moore yard and I thought the third last time out to experienced campaigner and Wolverhampton course specialist Sewn Up was a good effort. That was over six furlongs and he was running on at the end, a 2lb rise is unlikely to stop him if in the same form today in this trip over the extra furlong.
I think six furlongs may just be a bit quick for him as both his wins this season have been over seven at Wolverhampton and eight at Kempton. There doesn't look to be much strength in depth in this event, Spinning Cobblers being the main danger. His last three starts he has finished 3rd in each of them, running off the same mark of 63, which is 3lbs higher than he has previously won off. It may just be that he has reached his limit.
